We invite you to join us for a special event celebrating the exhibition opening of Resisters: A Legacy of Movement From the Japanese American Incarceration on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

This afternoon of Remembrance and Resistance will include:
  • 1:00-5:00pm Light refreshments and access to museum
  • 1:30-2:15pm Speaking Program and Musical Presentation by Seattle Symphony in the Community Hall
  • 3:00pm Artist panel in the Tateuchi Story Theatre
  • 4:00pm Art Performance presentations in the Community Hall
  • 5:00pm Museum Closes
The exhibit incorporates art, first-person accounts, historical material, and artifacts to draw connections from Japanese American resistance movements during the WWII era to modern Asian American justice movements and activism today. The exhibit leads visitors through a historical narrative beginning with the experience of Japanese American incarcerated by the U.S. Government in the 1940s and the complicated feelings of shame, anger, fear, and varied faces of resistance from within the community. Through the following decades, the story highlights the lingering sense of injustice and awakening to justice movements at home and abroad, especially in light of modern-day anti-Muslim, anti-Arab, anti-Indigenous, anti-Black, and anti-immigrant policies.
