In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, Wing Luke Museum proudly presents a double-feature of contemporary documentaries of the Vietnamese diaspora : Sàigòn to Seattle (Dir. June Nho Ivers) and The Empathizer (Dir. Fred Le), followed by a moderated discussion with the filmmakers in attendance.
Sàigòn to Seattle (2025, 18 min.) follows the powerful stories of 5 Little Saigon community members – Hiếu Phùng, Anna Xuân Trịnh, Julie Phạm, Quỳnh Phạm, and Oliver Vy Nguyễn.
These stories are part of the work to preserve the cultural home of the Viet community in King County and the spirit of refugees, immigrants, and children born into the Vietnamese diaspora.
The Empathizer (2024, 59 min.) is a playfully postmodern documentary which follows comedian Fred Le as he explores the journeys of overseas-born Vietnamese who have chosen to return to the country their parents once fled.
Through intimate interviews, The Empathizer reveals the complexities of identity, belonging, and what it means to truly come home. This will be the award-winning film's official Seattle Premiere.
Both films will be presented with English and Vietnamese subtitles.
