A coming-of-age journey in the midst of war and bravery, Namba: A Japanese American's Incarceration and Life of Resilience introduces us to May Namba, a Japanese American woman incarcerated during WWII, narrated by her granddaughter Miyako. May loses her job and her father is taken away by the FBI. She was then incarcerated at Minidoka, one of 10 prison camps for Americans of Japanese descent. Yet throughout the journey, we witness May’s incredible resilience and how it forges a life of community and service.
Funded by an Artswave Truth and Reconciliation Grant and 41 individual donors.
Filmmaker will be present for a Q&A after the screening. This in-person screening in the Wing Luke Museum's Tateuchi Story Theatre is limited to 45 people.
All guests are required to wear a face mask over their noses and mouths during the screening, unless actively eating or drinking.
